Born in Ghent (1972), Piet Raemdonck completed his formal training in Antwerp, where he achieved his masters at age 21. His practice incorporates both European and American painting traditions. There have been many who have influenced his work and artistic teachers like Velazquez, Degas, Bonnard, Morandi, James Castle and Tal R continue to be an inspiration.
There is a great sensitivity to colour in Raemdonck's work. He is excited by the juxtaposition of colours and their dialogue with light and darkness. He is a luminist in awe of how things transform by changing light. His paintings focus on his surroundings - still life, landscape and interiors where he explores the relationship between the naive and classical as well as abstract geometry versus distinctive romanticism.
